Fashion springs eternal

Spring's here-kind of-and Brandeis students have been waiting to display their spring fashions. The weather, however, has been a bit temperamental and has forced Brandeisians to incorporate a bit of fall fashion into their spring outfits. While the white tents of New York's Fashion Week came down back in February, the trends showcased in them are hitting our campus now. Bright flowing tops and dresses were very popular with designers, who accentuated their outfits with oversized belts. The trendsetters sported colorful maxi dresses as well as chic and sleek angelic ruffles, creating pseudo-spring outfits which could be categorized as "hippie-preppy." Also at Fashion Week, BCBG's models wore "balloon" skirts that swathed the female curvature-a look that some of our own Brandeis women have employed. Blue is back this season for both men and women. Nautical trends from nearby Cape Cod have made their way to the runways of New York in collections like those of Kate Moss and Karen Walker. Annifreed Sinjour's '13 striped polo paired with white shorts is a perfect example. The fashion-forward Brandeis female can be seen in striped shirts, sailor shorts and boat shoes as modeled by Rachel Miller '13 (far right), who also highlights the revamped jean look of the spring season. Designers such as Ralph Lauren lined the runways with cuffed and roughed jeans, but denim this season is in no way exclusive to pants. Some Brandeis men, like Julian Olidort '11 (top center), sport the classic jean jacket, while others, like David Robles '13 (top left), prefer rolled-up denim pants with a cardigan sweater. So while spring this year has been a bit temperamental, Brandeis students have easily acclimated to the changes and are producing some very creative, comfortable and unique looks. Boldly printed scarves by Rodarte, similar to the one shown on Jiyun Li '11 (top right), and blazers for both men and women by Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren also made their way down the runway. Ankle boots are also sticking around, with the combination of leggings or tights underneath shorts as seen on Mariam Akbar '11 (above). The fashions have hints of both fall and spring, which together have created a distinctive style of clothing which could easily be deemed "the Brandeis look."
