Fashion News: Viva Vena will bring Vena Cava to the masses

Vena Cava is a popular new label known for it’s Brooklyn, NY style. Designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock were among the CFDA honorees who created new khaki classics for Gap last year, but the offering was limited edition. Soon, however, consumers that shop at Gap-like price points will be able to buy items directly from the source. Buhai and Mayock are launching a lower-priced line called Viva Vena. The label will consist of basics such as jersey tees, tanks and dresses. The designers understand how tight the basics market is and sought to make a distinction with their new line.
“We looked around and noticed that almost nothing was printed,” said Buhai, adding that everything is “priced so you didn’t have to think about it.”
To stand out in the jersey crowd, Viva Vena will feature photo collages and hand-drawn motifs on each item. The garments, which will retail for less than $200 each, will be available mid-year in 2010 at retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue and online at Shopbop.com and Lagarconne.com.
