Rubin Chapelle Resort: Beach to Street Chic

For Rubin Chapelle's in-between season Resort 2011 collection, shown in their New York store on Tuesday, June 8, the theme likewise fell somewhere in between. In this case, they settled somewhere between day and night with their elevation of casual, everyday silhouettes mixed with softer, more relaxed eveningwear.

For day, elegant separates consisted of airy layering pieces such as a silk chiffon vest, mosaic effect paneled bias cut tops in sunrise colors of dusty pinks with pops of orange, pleated shorts in lightweight silks or suede and reinterpreted classics like a tuxedo jacket with subtle, luxurious details like satin insets on the sleeves and pockets and a jumpsuit with a knotted top and tuxedo pant bottom.

Bias cut day dresses featured an adjustable tie that could be wrapped around the waist or loosely tied around the hips. Likewise, oversized tees could be worn as flowy tunics, or defined with a hand-pleated obi belt in satin or suede.

For evening, the Rubin Chapelle mantra was "no fuss, no frills," relying simply on the drape of the fabric for dramatic effect. A soft champagne pink gown with built-in obi paneling in monochromatic silk charmeuse, silk chiffon and silk jersey could easily double as a wedding gown for a casual destination wedding on a beach. And, in fact, Rubin Chapelle has seen an increase in requests for evening looks customized as a white bridal gown for brides looking for something more nonchalant and minimalist for their wedding day.

Overall, they're all designs with figure-flattery in mind, one reason for Rubin Chapelle's cult status since the label's store opened in 2002 (designers Sonja Rubin and Kip Chapelle founded the company in 1997) - along with the brand's emphasis on catering to the unpretentious, yet sophisticated city dweller as at home in Malibu as New York City.
