ABOVE Magazine ‘Creating a Global Green Community’

NEW YORK, April 21 /PRNewswire/ — Coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2010, ABOVE magazine releases its Spring/Summer issue and further highlights the greatest challenge of our time – protecting the planet’s endangered natural resources.

This celebratory issue features cover model Elettra Weidemann shot by renowned art and fashion photographer Bettina Rheims. In this stunning and intimate portfolio, Elettra uses the opportunity to talk of her commitment to the environment and to set the record straight on her own identity (she is Isabella’s daughter; her surname, however, is not Rossellini).

“Earth Day is a perfect example of people pulling together, donating their time, energy, talent, money, art – whatever they have to contribute – to protect and preserve the beauty of our world,” says Nicolas Rachline, ABOVE’s publisher and editor-in-chief. “And it should be entertaining, too, because nothing effective is ever achieved by being boring.”

Also for ABOVE’s Spring/Summer issue, Tierney Gearon traveled to Florida’s Everglades to create an original series of her signature double-exposure photographs. An accompanying story by Kirk Nielsen delves deep into the puzzling reality of the Everglades, North America’s largest subtropical wilderness. Wade Davis submits his post-COP15 report from Copenhagen, concluding, “We must change the fundamental way in which we inhabit the planet.” And James Balog closes the issue with a startling look at what awaits us when the glaciers are gone, photographing and chronicling the effects of global warming in Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, and the Rocky Mountains.

On a lighter note, the timeless Carol Alt shares her views of natural and health-conscious living, while supermodel Helena Christensen invites readers into her “secret garden” in a corner of Greenwich Village.

And then we have a candid conversation with the always thought-provoking Philippe Starck in which he calls into question his status as an iconic designer and his relevancy in light of the issues facing humanity yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

ABOVE magazine is published quarterly by Centoria Limited with a cover price of $10.00. It is distributed globally by Comag, a division of Conde Nast.
